Happy Valentines Day!

Posted on 14th February, 2019

Valentine's day is traditionally associated with expressing our love for someone else, but maybe we should also spend more time directing some of that love back towards ourselves?

Most of us are so busy running around doing things for other people, familly, spouse, boss, colleagues, etc, that we end up ignoring our own needs.

When those needs get too great, and are ignored for too long, our body gives us symptoms to make us take notice. These may take the form of headaches, muscle or joint pains, colds and 'flu', tiredness, or a host of other symptoms, all of which have the same purpose - to make us slow down, "re-charge our batteries" and maybe seek help.

CranioSacral Therapy is one of the best "re-charge and re-boot" therapies available. It releases and balances the tensions in the superficial and deep fascia of our body and nervous system, improves the blood flow to our organs and brain, and encourages the elimination of built-up waste products and toxins from our tissues. Patients frequently report that it is the most relaxing treatment they have ever had, and it is suitable for all ages, from colicky babies, to stressed out teenagers, and their exhausted parents!

Why not treat yourself, or a loved one, to a treatment?

You're worth it!

What makes us different to some other Taunton practices?

Experience & Time

When you are dealing with, sometimes complicated, health issues, experience is everything.

I have been an Osteopath for over 30 years and a CranioSacral Therapist for more than 25 years, and have vast experience treating musculo-skeletal, sports, and other injuries, especially of the back, neck and shoulders, as well as head aches, breathing, abdominal and other health issues. I also have extensive specialist Paediatric training, and I am recognised by Doctors, Midwives and Health Visitors, as well as other Complementary Health Practitioners, in the area as an expert in the field.

As well as undergoing at least 50 hours a year of ongoing training and education, I also help teach other practitioners and students.

Although I am happy for patients to chose to have just Osteopathy, or just CranioSacral Therapy, I have found that using a combination of Osteopathic and CranioSacral techniques speeds up the rate of recovery and helps prevent a return of symptoms. This method also results in a less hurried,  more relaxing treatment and patients, of all ages, frequently fall asleep on the treatment couch!

Which leads us to one of the other things we do differently.....

Unlike other clinics that might only allow 30 minutes for a treatment session, (or only 15 minutes in one local clinic!) we allow up to 60 minutes per consultation. This gives us the time to take a thorough case history, do a full examination, including neurological and orthopaedic tests when they are indicated, come to an accurate diagnosis, AND START THE TREATMENT AT THE INITIAL APPOINTMENT.

A full Osteopathic diagnosis is rarely a simple one or two word "label", like "sciatica" or "slipped disc", but more often a narrative encompassing the cause of the problem, the reasons why it has not resolved itself, and all the tissues affected. More about this in a future blog!

60 minute appointments also mean we can get a lot done in a treatment session, meaning you need to return less times, and GET BETTER MORE QUICKLY, saving you time, money and suffering.

Unlike other clinics we will not give you "the hard sell" or pressurise you to book and pay for 10, 20 or even 30 appointments upfront. Why not? Because we have yet to encounter a patient that needed 10, 20 or 30 appointments to get better!

Nor do we use groupon or other "discount" vouchers. If you need treatment but genuinely cannot afford it, please get in touch and we will do all we can to make our services available to you.

Most of our patients with acute injuries report significant improvement after the first treatment session and have returned to normal activity within 2 to 4 appointments. Chronic conditions may sometimes take a bit longer and may require occasional maintenance treatments. We give most patients a set of exercises to maintain this improvement and to reduce the chance of a recurrence.

So, even if you have tried other practitioners and not had the results you were after, it is worth giving us a try to see if our approach can help.
